Frequently asked Questions:

Q: Can i install Border Line on a fenceline containing steel or star posts?

A: Yes, however we recommend you use our steel post insert to protect against the sharp edges, particularly with star posts which hav punched holes and often sharp burs one side and yes this insert is made to fit into standard star post holes- see: Plastic insert- code: G5

Q: Can Border Line be Electrified?

A: Border Line is made using an inert polymer ( Nylon) with no conductive properties at all and is ideal for use under powerlines where other products containing conductors of any kind can become "live" ( electrified) due to the capacitive effect of running parrallel with high voltage wires. Can also be used to form a fence section to break the electric grid effect where steel or other conductive fencing has to be used, with this product giving a power break in the fence line. If you want something visible and electrifiable, look at the Equirope product. The intended use of this product is for visibility and fitted correctly a barrier or boundary fence line.

Q: Can i install Border Line without drilling through posts, using staples including using staples on 90 degree and 2 x 45 degree corners and how do i tie it off on strainer posts?

A: On the below knot explanation, step 1. it is not necessary to go 3 times around the post, but at least twice, then follow the other steps.

Staples on the line posts are fine, just make sure a good smooth steel staple no sharp edges or square wire profile or barbs exposed, leave so it can slip. You can use staples on the inside of corners, but we recommend the following, as staples on corners pull out under force when posts dry and crack.

If running on the inside edge of fence with staples, at the corner, run straight past corner post around it and 90 degrees to the rest of the line, the borderline will cross over on the inside of the fence line. When tensioning, rub plenty grease/ Vaseline on the line so as you pull it it lubricates it around the corner in the direction from which you are going to pull the tension and/or have a second hand to just go to the corners and pull on the slack side towards the side where you are tensioning it from, this assists it around the corner post and evens out the tension.

With 2 x 45 degree corners, Vaseline and hands to assist around corners as the accumulated friction around posts start to cause quite big resistance to being dragged around these corners.

You can do full paddocks, all four sides, gate post to gate post like this. Hold good strain with a strainer as you tie off and release once your knot is done, the start or the run can be tied off with this same knot.

THE KNOT- Called the 333 knot- The best and neatest way to tie off is using the: Large Wire Anchor

1: Go 3 times around the strainer post ( 2 x is fine)

2: Twist tail end 3 times around Border Line leading away from the post

3:Twist tail end 3 times around Border Line leading back towards the post

4: Tuck the tail end 2 or 3 times between the strands going around the post and the post itself

5: Release strainer mechanism, watch knot tighten up and cut excess tail off- your knot will never come undone.

Q: How do i work out and apply 3-4% strain.

A: 1 % of 100m = 1m so 3-4% is 3-4m whichever you feel is tight enough, both will be too tight for animals to get tangled. So 600m = 6m x 3= 18m of strain. join 2 rolls and do a run of for example - 860m? = 8.6 x 3 = 25.8m strain.

Q: How do i strain this amount of strain required?

A: Pull Border Line on the fence line by hand untill all sag is out, no looser, no tighter !- Then pace back your 3m, 18m or whatevers your 3 % works out at and make a clear texter mark on the line. Then pull as much as you can by hand, 2 people may get it to 2.5% strain, the remainder needs to be pulled up by chain strainer, rope strainer or if using a wire anchor to terminate, a wire anchor strainer or gripple strainer also works.

REMEMBER: If any fence product is left too loosely on the fence, this could cause tangling if legs or other parts and you are then not using this product in the safest way for which it is designed, the recommended tension is mandatory to achieve the safest possible installation and vastly reduce risk of injury and vet bills.

Q: How do I go around corners when running Border Line continuously?
